The Union government reduced the cost of a 14.2 kilogram (kg) cooking gas cylinder by 200 rupees on Tuesday, which is good news for consumers.
Hammer on Inflation by Union government
The Union Cabinet on Tuesday reduced the cost of a 14.2 kilogram LPG cooking gas cylinder by 200 rupees as a present for the ladies in celebration of Raksha Bandhan. The choice was made in response to growing criticism of the Centre’s management of rising inflation. So this move should help the Government to control the rising inflation.
For instance, in Delhi, the 14.2-kg LPG cylinder, which is now marketed at Rs 1,103, would now cost Rs 903 for all domestic consumers; for those who qualify for Ujjwala, the effective price will be Rs 703. Domestic LPG is now priced per cylinder at Rs 1,102.50 in Mumbai, Rs 1,129 in Kolkata, and Rs 1,118.50 in Chennai.
As per National Sample Survey Office (NSSO)
Nearly 50% of rural households and 90% of urban households in India utilize LPG as their main source of energy, according to the most recent National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) data.
“We understand the challenges faced by households in managing their budgets. The reduction in cooking gas prices is aimed at providing direct relief to families and individuals, while also supporting the government’s larger goal of ensuring affordable access to essential items,” Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said.
