After nearly 14 months away from ODI cricket, Ben Stokes is back. He had last year declared his retirement from ODI cricket in order to manage his workload. He plays T20 cricket as well as Test cricket as the captain of the England side. However, Stokes returned to ODI cricket for the remainder of the series against New Zealand at the urging of England head coach Brendon McCullum and ODI captain Jos Buttler.
The third game of their one-day international series, which is tied at 1-1, saw New Zealand win the toss and choose to bowl first against England at The Oval.
