On Monday 18th September 2023, India’s team for the ODI series against Australia. They rested Rohit, Virat, and Hardik Pandya for the 1st two matches. In the absence of Rohit, KL Rahul took charge as a captain, and R. Ashwin came after a long absence from the blue jersey. He played the last ODI match in January 2022 due to the injury of Axer Patel during the Asia Cup 2023. Ashwin’s ODI record is great. He played 113 matches and took 151 wickets. He was also a part of the World Cup-winning side in 2011.

ODI Series

India came from Sri Lanka after winning the Asia Cup 2023, India won its 8th title. On the other hand, Australia came after touring to South-Africa, where they played the ODI and T20 Series, and they whitewashed South Africa in the T20 series 3-0 and they lost the ODI series 3-2 to them.

Axar’s fitness: “We are hoping Axar Patel is fit for the third encounter. R Ashwin and Washington Sundar are also included for the third ODI,” says Ajit Agarkar (Chief Selector).

Ashwin: India captain Rohit Sharma says R Ashwin’s lack of game-time in the ODI format is not a concern for he has been a consistent player for India in Tests over the years. “It’s all in the head for players like him,” adds Rohit.
